We all know that Google is the ultimate source of information for everything we need. But are we aware that Google is also the source for promotion on the web? Yes, you read it right.
Here is an easy tool to promote your own website, YouTube channel – Google Ads. It is an online advertising platform that helps advertisers to display ads about their products, services, and videos to the audience across the internet. With Google Ads, one can promote its website or YouTube channel by bidding a certain amount to Google.
Let us understand the process of paid promotion and running an ad on Google.
Step 1:
Sign in to http://www.googleads.com with your Gmail ID.
If you don’t have one, you can create a new account on Gmail and then sign in on Google ads with the new Gmail username and password.
Step 2:
Once you sign in to Google ads, you need to choose ‘New campaign’. In the next window, you are required to choose videos and then a custom video campaign.
Continuing to the next window, you can name the campaign.
Step 3:
There are two options for building a bidding strategy:
Maximum CPV (Cost Per View) – Cost when an individual views the video.
CPI (Cost Per Impression)- Here, we have to pay for the target audience who may or may not click on the link but they are impressed with the thumbnail.
Generally, we should choose maximum CPV.
Step 4:
Next, you get two options.
- Prepaid
- Billing
By default, it shows you the billing window. If you want to promote your YouTube channel, then you need to enter the link of your channel. Fill in the required information such as heading and description. You will get an option to ‘Skip to billing’. With this, you can make a payment in advance for promotion. The daily budget should be selected which can be a minimum of Rs. 100/-.
Step 5:
Then it comes to Networks. We need to tick for YouTube search results and YouTube videos.
Step 6:
In the next step, you can select the language viz. Hindi, Marathi, English, depending upon the language of your YouTube videos.
Step 7:
The next step involves the country or location to be set for promotion. Accordingly, you can choose your target country (E.g India, Australia, and so on).
Step 8:
Next is the inventory type, select ‘Expanded’.
Excluded types is another aspect where we can tick ‘Embedded videos’ and ‘Live streaming videos’.
Step 9:
In the next step, choose the devices where people can watch your ads or videos. It should always be mobile as most people watch YouTube on mobile and it gives more views at a lower cost.
Step 10:
Next is frequency capping where we can choose how many times your ad can be shown to the viewer. We can select one impression per month which will not irritate the viewer.
Step 11:
Then comes the audience which we can choose according to demographics, age and interests. You can also select an audience on the basis of different fields like technology, banking, food, home & garden, and so on. The content of your YouTube video gives you an idea about the type of audience to be chosen.
Step 12:
Another important aspect is bidding where you can decide on how much budget you are ready to spend per view. It can normally be 0.10 paisa. After reviewing the ad, Google confirms the same. If you aren’t getting the desired views, you can even increase the bidding budget per view. However, if the views are more, you can decrease the bidding budget per view.
At last, you need to enter the video link of your YouTube channel.
There are two options for running ads.
- Skippable in-stream ad
- Video Discovery ad
The skippable in-stream ads are those which can be skipped after 5 seconds when we are watching any video on YouTube, however these ads are expensive.
The best way is to select a video discovery ad.
Here we can add the title or headline of the ad. It should not contain any brand name or emojis. It can also include words spelt incorrectly. A similar rule is applicable to the description field also.
The name of the video can be the same as the headline. Next, we need to choose where we want to run the ad. It should always be for a mobile view.
On the right-hand side, Google shows the estimated views. The cost can be according to the criteria we select. In the end, we need to click on ‘create an ad’. This will be submitted for a review. Once Google approves the ad, it starts running on YouTube. Also read How to be a Youtuber?
